Early Voting in Maryland Set to Begin on October 24: Key Ballot Questions and Voting Deadlines
Early voting in Maryland is scheduled to commence on Thursday, October 24, and will continue through October 31. This period allows voters to cast their ballots ahead of the general election on November 5.
One of the significant ballot questions facing Maryland voters is Question 1, a statewide amendment that seeks to enshrine reproductive rights, including abortion access, in the state constitution. The amendment does not explicitly mention the word “abortion” but aims to establish a fundamental right to reproductive freedom. Supporters argue this is crucial for safeguarding future reproductive rights, while opponents label the measure as deceptive and an attack on parental rights.
In Baltimore City, voters will decide on several local ballot questions, including Question F, which pertains to the development of Harborplace. This question has been contentious, with plans to allow residential units in a section of the Inner Harbor. The Maryland Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of keeping the question on the ballot despite opposition from grassroots organizers.
Voters also need to be aware of key deadlines: the mail-in ballot request deadline is October 29, and web delivery requests must be made by November 1. Mail-in ballots must be postmarked or dropped off at a ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on November 5.
Early voting centers will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the early voting period. On Election Day, polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m..
