Early Voting in New Jersey: Key Dates, Times, and Guidelines for the 2024 Election
As the 2024 general election approaches, early voting in New Jersey is nearing its conclusion. Here are the key details voters need to know:
Early voting in New Jersey will end on Sunday, November 3, at 6 p.m. This marks the final day of the state’s nine-day early voting period, which has seen significant turnout. Over 1.45 million New Jersey voters have already cast their ballots, with more than 744,000 individuals using in-person early voting and over 714,000 submitting mail-in ballots.
The early voting centers are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Saturday, and on the final day, Sunday, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Voters can cast their ballots at any designated in-person early voting location within their county.
This is New Jersey’s first presidential election to feature in-person early voting, allowing voters to use traditional voting machines. The initial day of early voting saw the highest single-day turnout, with 135,075 ballots submitted.
Voters who are registered to vote by mail but wish to vote in person during early voting can do so by casting a provisional ballot. They can also opt to vote in person on Election Day or apply for a mail-in ballot.
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, polls in New Jersey will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Voters must be in line before the polls close to be allowed to cast their ballots.
Accommodations will be made for voters with disabilities, and voters can confirm their polling locations and other voting information on the New Jersey election website, VOTE.NJ.GOV.
