Earth Hour 2024: Global Participation in Biggest Hour for Earth Campaign

People worldwide are coming together today to commemorate Earth Hour Day, a global initiative organized by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to raise awareness on environmental issues. This year marks the 18th anniversary of Earth Hour, celebrated under the theme ‘Biggest Hour for Earth’. The event encourages individuals to turn off their lights for 60 minutes from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in a symbolic gesture of support for the planet.

Earth Hour serves as a beacon of positivity, hope, and inspiration, uniting individuals across the globe in solidarity for the environment. The objective is to engage a wide audience, especially those who may not be fully aware of the environmental crisis we are facing.

To mark Earth Hour, a special anthem has been unveiled by WWF, composed by Shantanu Moitra and sung by Papon. The heartfelt lyrics by Tanveer Ghazi highlight the splendor of nature and the collective responsibility we all share in safeguarding it.

Well-known personalities such as baker Shivesh Bhatia and fashion designer Rahul Mishra are showing their support by participating in Earth Hour and switching off non-essential lights during the designated hour. Last year, Earth Hour witnessed participation from over 190 countries and territories, with millions of people dedicating their time to support the cause. This year, the goal is to make the #BiggestHourForEarth even more impactful by motivating individuals to spend the hour engaging in activities that benefit the planet.

Earth Hour is an annual event initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour. This symbolic gesture aims to raise awareness on environmental issues and inspire action towards a sustainable future.

While turning off lights is a significant symbol, Earth Hour transcends that one hour and acts as a platform to inspire and mobilize individuals to take continuous action throughout the year. The WWF encourages participants to utilize the hour by engaging in activities that promote environmental conservation and sustainability, such as candlelit dinners, nature walks, or educational events.
