Egyptian Protest Against Palestinian Displacement Plans

CAIRO, Egypt — Egypt has firmly rejected proposals to forcibly displace the Palestinian people, emphasizing the need to protect the integrity of the Palestinian cause and regional national security, as stated by the Egyptian Presidency on Tuesday.

The rejection comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump‘s contentious plan to permanently displace more than 2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, which includes asserting U.S. control over the territory and transforming it into a luxury development project dubbed the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

Egypt will host an emergency Arab League summit on March 4 to focus on Arab efforts to counter Trump’s proposal and address calls for Egypt and Jordan to resettle displaced Palestinians. Both nations have expressed serious national security concerns regarding any forced resettlement initiatives.

Arab leaders from Gulf states, Egypt, and Jordan convened in Riyadh earlier in the week to discuss the implications of the plan. Reports suggest the discussions centered around an Egyptian initiative potentially involving up to $20 billion in funding over three years from Gulf and Arab states, though this remains unofficial.

The proposed displacement has sparked considerable fear among Palestinians, many of whom are reminded of the Nakba, or catastrophe, which led to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands from their homeland during the establishment of Israel in 1948.

In a statement released by the Egyptian presidency, officials highlighted that such displacement proposals would “liquidate” the Palestinian cause and pose a grave threat to the national security of neighboring countries.

Trump’s plan has faced widespread backlash across the Arab world, prompting protests and calls for solidarity with the Palestinian people. Key regional stakeholders, including Saudi Arabia, have issued statements reaffirming their commitment to establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, indicating a rejection of any suggestions that displace Palestinians to other nations.

According to The Media Line, the ongoing Gaza conflict remains a focal point in regional discussions, with emphasis on developing an alternative Arab plan that preserves the rights of Palestinians while ensuring stability in the region.
