Ellen Degeneres Car Accident Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES, CA — Ellen DeGeneres is facing legal troubles after a car crash in California more than a year ago. The former talk show host is being sued by a woman who claims DeGeneres ran a stop sign and collided with her vehicle on October 16, 2023, in Santa Barbara County.

The lawsuit, filed recently, alleges that DeGeneres’ negligence caused significant injuries and damages to the plaintiff. According to court documents, the woman stopped at a stop sign and checked for other vehicles before proceeding. However, she claims that DeGeneres suddenly crashed into her car without warning.

The intersection where the accident occurred is reportedly controlled by stop signs on all sides. The plaintiff asserts DeGeneres exhibited negligent behavior that “fell below the standard of care of a reasonable person.”

As a result of the collision, the woman says she has experienced multiple serious personal injuries, wage loss, and accrued medical expenses. The lawsuit is seeking an undisclosed amount in compensatory damages.

DeGeneres, 67, retired from her talk show in 2021 amid allegations of a toxic workplace environment. Following Donald Trump‘s re-election in 2024, she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, relocated to the United Kingdom, where they have established a permanent home.

In a recent interview, DeGeneres expressed her appreciation for life in England, describing it as “absolutely beautiful” and praising the charm of its villages and towns. She stated, “Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite.”
