Tom Phillips New Zealand Fugitive

Authorities in New Zealand have launched a major search operation following a credible sighting of Tom Phillips and his three children, who have been missing for nearly three years. The family was spotted walking through rugged terrain in the Waikato region by teenage pig hunters who captured the moment on video.

The fugitive father, along with his children, Jayda (11), Maverick (9), and Ember (8), were seen wearing camouflage gear and carrying large camping backpacks. According to local media, the group was identified by a 16-year-old hunter who encountered them near Marokopa on New Zealand’s North Island.

Tom Phillips, who does not have legal custody of his children, has been wanted since disappearing in December 2021 following a dispute with their mother. A warrant for Phillips’ arrest was issued earlier this year in connection to an alleged armed robbery at a bank in Te Kuiti.

Their mother, referred to as Cat, expressed both relief and frustration in light of the sighting. She stated, “It was like Christmas come early,” but criticized the official response as “lacking,” calling for more immediate action to secure the family’s return.

New Zealand Police have yet to locate the group despite deploying significant resources, including a military helicopter. Detective Inspector Andrew Saunders confirmed that they are ready to respond to any new information that may arise.

In 2023, police had announced a reward of $80,000 for any details leading to the trio’s safe return, although the offer expired earlier this year. Authorities suspect Phillips has been assisted by others during his time in hiding and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Past sightings of Phillips have been reported, including a November 2023 CCTV capture showing him allegedly stealing a quad bike from a rural property. Police are determined to ensure the safety and wellbeing of his children and are making every effort to resolve the situation.
