San Francisco 49ers Players Training

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco 49ers are making bold predictions for the upcoming NFL season. As of April 29, 2025, veterans Neville Elliott and Alfred Givens are expected to start in Week 1. However, players like Alfred Collins and CJ West could also be joining them in critical roles.

Collins, who is compared to first-round pick Javon Kinlaw, impressed coaches with his physical ability and absence of early career injuries. West brings a similar energy, resembling former 49er D.J. Jones. Both players have shown their dedication by remaining at the team facility during the offseason to train alongside fellow rookies.

Mykel Williams, a defensive standout from Georgia, is expected to excite fans. “He is a big badass off the edge,” analyst Chris Simms noted during “PFT Live.” Other rookies like Nick Martin and CJ West have been praised for their disruptive play, fitting into the 49ers’ strategy of enhancing their defensive lineup. Simms believes the team nailed the draft by returning to its roots, emphasizing toughness and competitiveness in their approach.

During a recent discussion, RJ Gillen, the 49ers’ director of player personnel, highlighted the collaboration between the coaching staff and new recruits. “We came together in a consensus in terms of the plan and the types of players and skill sets,” he said.

Among the new talents, wide receiver Malik Bergen stood out as a notable addition. Measuring 5-foot-9 1/2 and weighing 184 pounds, Bergen brings a record-shattering pedigree to the team. He is tied for the NCAA FCS record with eight career punt-return touchdowns and averaged 16.7 yards per punt return. With new kickoff rules giving offenses a running start, he may have more opportunities to make an impact.

As the 49ers prepare for the upcoming season, anticipation grows around how these new players will shake up the roster and impact game day.
