Andre Drummond, the veteran center, is set to make a return to the Philadelphia 76ers with a lucrative two-year contract, as reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania on Sunday.
Drummond, who spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bulls after a stint with the Sixers following a trade, is set to rejoin the Philadelphia 76ers.
During his 49-game tenure with the Sixers, Drummond was part of a trade that sent Ben Simmons to the Brooklyn Nets, aiding the Sixers in landing James Harden.
Spending the past season with the Bulls, Drummond participated in 79 games, including 10 starts, and managed to average 8.4 points and 9.0 rebounds.
Just before the news surfaced, Drummond cryptically hinted at his return by expressing a craving for a Philly cheesesteak on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Drummond’s reentry will bolster the Sixers’ center rotation, providing crucial depth behind star player Joel Embiid, especially considering the potential departure of Paul Reed due to contract uncertainties post the team’s disappointing first-round playoff exit against the New York Knicks.
Additionally, the Sixers fortified their frontcourt by selecting a promising prospect in the recent NBA draft.
While the specifics of Drummond’s contract with the Sixers are yet to be finalized, NBA teams commenced negotiations with free agents starting on Sunday at 6 p.m.
The Philadelphia 76ers possess significant assets and cap space to enhance their roster around key players like Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, aiming for a competitive season ahead.»,
