Euphoria Star Hunter Schafer Arrested During Gaza Ceasefire Protest in New York City
Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer, known for her roles in the hit series and The Hunger Games movies, was apprehended by authorities during a demonstration in New York City alongside the Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) organization. The protest aimed to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza and coincided with President Biden‘s appearance at the NBC studios in Rockefeller Center.
Schafer, aged 25, was seen donning a t-shirt with the slogan ‘Ceasefire Now’ as she participated in the rally orchestrated by the self-described ‘anti-Zionist’ JVP group. Over 50 individuals, including Schafer, were taken into custody during the protest at the NBC headquarters.
JVP’s spokesperson commended Schafer’s dedication to Palestinian freedom and called for justice for all. The demonstration called for President Biden to reconsider his stance on the conflict between Israel and Hamas, criticizing the administration’s foreign policy and urging for a ceasefire.
In a video shared on JVP’s Instagram, Schafer and fellow protesters chanted for peace, demanding ‘No more weapons, no more war, ceasefire’s what we’re fighting for.’ They also held up a banner stating ‘Jews to Biden – stop arming genocide’ as they voiced their opposition to the ongoing violence.
The JVP organization, described as the ‘largest progressive Jewish anti-Zionist organization in the world,’ emphasizes solidarity with the Palestinian freedom struggle and envisions a future of justice, equality, and dignity for all individuals. Their grassroots movements aim to promote a new, inclusive, and just society, breaking down unjust systems and fostering a new, life-sustaining environment.
Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the conflict in Gaza has garnered global attention, with thousands of civilians affected by the violence. Calls for a ceasefire have intensified, putting pressure on President Biden to play a more active role in resolving the crisis. Negotiations are ongoing, with Israeli officials reportedly considering a temporary pause in hostilities in exchange for the release of hostages.
