Ryder Cup 2025 Golf Tournament Highlights

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Europe took a commanding 5.5 to 2.5 lead against the United States after the first day of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. This marks the first time Europe has led after day one on U.S. soil since 2004.

Jon Rahm and Tommy Fleetwood each contributed two points for Europe, showcasing their teamwork in both the foursomes and four-ball matches. Rory McIlroy also delivered a strong performance, now holding a 6-1-1 record in his last eight Ryder Cup matches, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The day started with Europe dominating the morning session, scoring three victories in the foursomes. In the opening match, Rahm and Fleetwood defeated Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas 4 and 3. McIlroy and Fleetwood edged out Collin Morikawa and Harris English 5 and 4, setting a commanding tone for the day.

The American team struggled to find their footing, with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler losing both of his matches. Scheffler’s disappointing performance mirrors that of Tiger Woods in 2002, becoming the first world No. 1 to achieve such a dubious milestone.

By the time the afternoon four-ball matches began, the pressure was on the U.S. team to make a comeback. They managed to secure just two points during the afternoon session, losing crucial matches in a battle for momentum.

Looking ahead to Saturday, U.S. captain Keegan Bradley must regroup his team and strategize effectively to have any hope of closing the gap. With the final singles matches on the horizon, an urgent response is needed from the American players.
