A wildfire has sparked concern and prompted officials to issue evacuation alerts north of Calgary.

Authorities reported that the fire is currently blazing in the Municipal District (MD) of Bighorn, located about 20 kilometers west of Water Valley.

On Tuesday evening, the MD of Bighorn announced an evacuation alert, urging residents in the affected area to leave as soon as possible.

The alert emphasized, “All persons in the area of closure need to evacuate immediate.” Residents have been advised to head to the reception center set up at the Water Valley Community Hall.

Those living outside the immediate evacuation zone should also be on high alert and prepared to leave their homes at a moment’s notice if ordered to do so.

Water Valley, known for its scenic views, is situated roughly 60 kilometers northwest of Calgary, within the MD of Mountain View County.

At this time, there are no mandatory evacuation orders for Water Valley itself, and a notice from the MD on Wednesday morning indicated that there’s no immediate risk to properties in Mountain View.

In the meantime, the Sundre RCMP have initiated several road closures in response to the ongoing wildfires in the area, including the town of Sundre, which lies about 35 kilometers north of Water Valley and 100 kilometers north of Calgary.
