Evansville Boy Uncovers Rare Babe Ruth Baseball Card with Grandfather

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A 12-year-old boy from Evansville made a remarkable discovery when he unveiled a signed Babe Ruth baseball card while spending quality time with his grandfather earlier this week.
Keegan, the young collector, shared that the lucky find happened on President’s Day as he and his grandfather, Bob Kenning, opened baseball cards together at Hobby Den.
“We had nothing better to do; Keegan calls me up and says, ‘Hey Pawpaw, why don’t we go to Hobby Den?’” Bob recollected.
Bob, who spoke fondly of his own childhood with baseball cards, reminisced, “A lot of my cards wound up in my bicycle spokes to make my bike sound better.”
For Keegan, baseball cards represent more than just memorabilia; they are cherished collector’s items. “I would say I have close to ten thousand cards,” he remarked proudly.
The dramatic moment occurred when the duo unexpectedly pulled a one-of-one signed Babe Ruth baseball card, a rare find in the world of sports memorabilia.
David Nguyen, the owner of The Hobby Den, expressed his amazement upon witnessing the event. “Babe Ruth signatures just aren’t common in general,” he said. “Just seeing something like that, that’s what the hobby is all about.”
Both Bob and Keegan recognize this experience as far more than a simple card pull; it strengthens their bond as a grandfather and grandson. “When we can share this hobby together and have a grandfather-grandson bonding time, that’s priceless right there,” Bob stated.
Despite the card’s potential monetary value, Keegan has no plans to part with it. “I think I’m going to hold on to it, definitely,” he said. “It’s just a once in a lifetime pull, and I probably will never get anything just like it.”
