Fareed Zakaria Criticizing Democrats On Cnn

CNN host Fareed Zakaria delivered a scathing critique of the Democratic Party on Sunday, just days after former President Donald Trump secured a second White House term by winning the popular vote and sweeping the seven battleground states.

Zakaria, host of the show *GPS*, outlined three key reasons he believes contributed to the Democrats’ poor performance in the 2024 presidential election. He argued that there was no single reason for Vice President Kamala Harris and down-ballot Democrats’ losses, but rather a combination of factors that reflected an electorate tired of Democratic policies and messaging.

The first major error, according to Zakaria, was the Biden administration’s handling of the immigration system. He pointed out that the asylum system, intended for a small number of persecuted individuals, was being used by millions to gain legal entry. Zakaria noted that liberals branded anyone protesting this situation as heartless and racist, missing a significant shift in American public opinion on immigration. By 2024, 55% of Americans wanted to decrease immigration, up from 28% in 2020.

The second error Zakaria highlighted was the overzealous use of law to punish Trump, which he termed “lawfare.” He criticized cases like the one pursued by Alvin Bragg in New York, suggesting that these actions gave the impression that the legal system was being weaponized against Trump. This, Zakaria argued, reinforced Trump’s base’s belief that urban liberals were hypocrites who bent rules and norms to their advantage.

Zakaria’s third critique was the Democrats’ embrace of divisive identity politics. He specifically mentioned the use of terms like “Latinx,” which he described as “weird.” He also criticized the party’s stance on issues such as gender identity and censorship, arguing that these positions made the Democrats appear “deeply illiberal” and contributed to a culture of cancel culture and dehumanization of opponents.
