Fatal Plane Crash near Catalina Airport Kills Five

A tragic event unfolded on Tuesday night, October 8, when a twin-engine aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Catalina Airport in Avalon, resulting in the deaths of all five individuals on board, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that deputies from the Avalon Station were alerted by a notification stemming from a cellphone shortly after the crash occurred. This notification included information regarding possible injuries and provided the phone’s location, which was approximately one mile west of the airport.

First responders, including Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters, arrived at the crash site, which was described as rough and steep terrain, and discovered the wreckage of the aircraft. The Beechcraft 95 airplane had tragically claimed the lives of all its occupants upon impact.

Assistance in the search and recovery efforts was provided by members of the Avalon Search and Rescue team and the Avalon City Fire Department, as confirmed by sheriff’s officials. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash will be handled by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board, as stated by the FAA.

At the time of this reporting, authorities have not released the names of those deceased, as efforts continue to notify the relatives of the victims.
