Federal High Court Denies Nnamdi Kanu Bail Request, Orders Accelerated Hearing

The Federal High Court in Abuja declined the bail plea put forward by Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Instead, Justice Binta Nyako granted an accelerated hearing for the case.

At the last court session, Alloy Ejimakor, the legal counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, urged the court to release Kanu on bail prior to the trial. He expressed concerns over Kanu’s deteriorating health condition, citing that his continuous confinement by the Department of State Services (DSS) posed a threat to his life.

Ejimakor argued that Kanu’s ongoing detention could impede his ability to present a robust defense in the legal proceedings.

However, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, representing the Federal Government, opposed the bail application. Awomolo suggested an accelerated hearing, emphasizing that the DSS has adequate medical facilities to attend to Kanu’s health needs.
