Filmmaker Reveals Batman Sequel is in Preparation Stage
Los Angeles, CA – A new sequel to the blockbuster film The Batman is officially in the works. Director Matt Reeves confirmed on Sunday that he has handed over the sequel script, and preparations are gearing up.
While attending the Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater, Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’re getting ready. We’re basically entering prep. We’ll be making the movie in the spring.” The director mentioned that the process took longer than he anticipated, citing personal reasons and the need to create the best possible script.
The first film, released on March 4, 2022, has been a financial success, grossing $772 million globally. Warner Bros. and DC executives have been eager for a follow-up script from Reeves and his writing partner, Mattson Tomlin. Reeves confirmed that Robert Pattinson, who plays Batman, has read the new script and is prepared to return to the iconic role.
To maintain the secrecy of the script, a high-security pouch was used for its delivery. “Benito, who’s my assistant, he goes and seeks out a very, very high security pouch that has a code on it that then we have to send separately,” Reeves explained. Pattinson encountered trouble opening the pouch but managed to do so with Reeves’ help. They later discussed the script over FaceTime.
While Reeves did not disclose specific plot details, he indicated that the sequel will continue in the detective story vein established in the first movie. “The idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery,” he said, emphasizing the importance of keeping the story under wraps.
Reeves expressed enthusiasm about the new direction for Batman. He stated that if Pattinson, as Batman, responds positively to the script, it bodes well for the film. “I was super excited. I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman and for Bruce, have never been done before in this way,” he said.
