Final Farewell to Atlanta Music Icon Rich Homie Quan
The funeral ceremony for prominent Atlanta rapper, Rich Homie Quan, is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The event is expected to draw a significant turnout, prompting organizers to issue tickets for the viewing times. Public viewings are allotted from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The doors of the World Changers Church International in College Park are set to close by 10 a.m.
On September 5th, Atlanta police were called to a residence on Hampton Forest Drive at approximately 11:22 a.m. where they discovered Rich Homie Quan, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, unresponsive. He was subsequently transported by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As of now, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office is overseeing the investigation to ascertain the official cause of death. According to the initial incident report, the responding officer did not detect any signs of foul play.
Rich Homie Quan, born on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, rose to stardom in the early 2010s. He made a significant impact on the music scene with his 2013 single, “Type of Way,” which reached number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. His subsequent 2015 hit, “Flex,” garnered further acclaim, peaking at number 26. Quan was slated to perform at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena on September 19, 2024.
The rapper was an integral member of the music group Rich Gang, delivering numerous hits as a solo artist throughout the 2010s. Acclaimed for his “melodic flow and catchy hooks,” Rich Homie Quan collaborated with other notable Atlanta rappers such as Young Thug and 2 Chainz, further enhancing his music stature. Quan was regarded as the eldest of three siblings.
His father, Corey Lamar, was previously injured in a targeted shooting at his barbershop in 2014. This incident has been part of an ongoing investigation by Fulton County prosecutors, who are examining potential connections to criminal gang activities led by various individuals facing multiple charges. Additionally, these developments have been central to the prosecution’s case concerning Jeffery Williams, better known as Young Thug.
