Finn Wolfhard Expresses Worry Over Final Season of Stranger Things

HAWKINS, Indiana — Finn Wolfhard, star of the hit series Stranger Things, shared his concerns about the show’s upcoming fifth and final season during an interview. As anticipation builds for the conclusion of the beloved sci-fi drama, Wolfhard admitted he was “pretty worried” that it might face backlash similar to what HBO’s Game of Thrones received during its final season in 2019.
“I think everyone was pretty worried, honestly,” Wolfhard told Time. He reflected on how the final season of Game of Thrones was widely criticized and expressed hope that Stranger Things would avoid a similar fate. “But then we read the scripts. We knew that it was something special,” he added.
Wolfhard has portrayed Mike Wheeler since Stranger Things debuted in 2016. He is part of a young ensemble cast that has grown together throughout the show’s five-season run. Season 5: Volume 1 is set to premiere on November 26 on Netflix, with Volume 2 scheduled for Christmas and the series finale on New Year’s Eve.
The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, have hinted that this last season will be their most ambitious yet. “We spent a full year filming this season. By the end, we’d captured over 650 hours of footage,” Ross Duffer stated. “So, needless to say, this is our biggest and most ambitious season yet. It’s like eight blockbuster movies.”
As they prepare for the final outing of Stranger Things, both the cast and creators hope to deliver a satisfying conclusion that resonates with fans. Netflix has adopted a unique release strategy for the final season, planning to drop four episodes the day before Thanksgiving, totaling seven episodes, culminating with a feature-length finale on December 31.
The finale of Stranger Things is poised to be one of the most scrutinized in television history. Wolfhard acknowledged the pressure, saying, “We hope to not have that kind of thing happen,” referring again to the criticisms faced by Game of Thrones. With the end of the series approaching, fans can expect a definitive ending that builds upon years of storytelling.
