Graystone Inn Fire Scene Wilmington North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. — A fire broke out Friday at the Graystone Inn in the historic downtown area. Fire crews were dispatched after receiving a call around 1:40 p.m., as smoke and flames were reported at the site located at 100 S 3rd St.

The Wilmington Fire Department confirmed that units were actively battling the blaze. Video footage from witnesses showed a large fire, with firefighters using aerial equipment to combat the flames. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with thick smoke billowing into the sky.

Wilmington police closed South 3rd Street at Market and Orange streets, advising the public to avoid the area while emergency personnel addressed the situation. “Don’t go downtown right now. They said the Graystone Inn is on fire,” one individual warned on social media, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

This incident is not the first for the Graystone Inn, as the building previously experienced a fire in 2023. Since that time, the inn has remained closed for repairs. Details on the current damage and whether anyone was injured during this latest fire have not yet been disclosed.

The situation is still developing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
