First Lady Melania Trump Celebrates Easter with White House Garden Tours

WASHINGTON, D.C. — First Lady Melania Trump officially opened the White House Garden Tours on Sunday, April 6, 2025. The event coincides with the culmination of Holy Week, as Melania Trump took to social media platform X to extend Good Friday wishes to Americans while expressing her enthusiasm for the upcoming White House Easter Egg Roll.
“May this Good Friday inspire hope and faith for all Americans and our friends around the world,” the First Lady wrote. She also thanked the East Wing staff for their continuous efforts in preparing for the Easter Egg Roll, stating, “This cherished tradition, rooted in history since 1878, brings joy, storytelling, and laughter to America’s children.” This year marks the 147th anniversary of the event, which began during the presidency of Rutherford B. Hayes.
The Easter tradition nearly faced cancellation in the past due to landscape concerns at the U.S. Capitol grounds, where egg rolls were banned due to increased popularity. However, the event has since become a significant and cherished staple of White House celebrations. Melania Trump looked forward to the festivities, writing, “I look forward to watching all of the smiles light up this memorable day, on Monday.”
The planning of the Egg Roll is traditionally overseen by first ladies, each bringing their unique touch to the festivities. Past events have included dance areas and traditional egg roll races, enhancing the overall experience. Guests for the event are selected through an online lottery which concluded on March 10, with attendees receiving commemorative wooden eggs as souvenirs.
The 2025 White House Easter Egg Roll is scheduled for Monday, April 21, on the South Lawn of the White House, echoing the excitement surrounding this annual event.
In a recent message shared on Palm Sunday, President Donald Trump emphasized the significance of Holy Week, reflecting on the Christian faith and its role in American society. “This Holy Week, my administration renews its promise to defend the Christian faith in our schools, military, workplaces, hospitals, and halls of government,” he stated.
Among attendees at a recent Easter dinner at the White House were notable figures from the evangelical community, including the niece of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and other prominent pastors. During the dinner, President Trump led discussions on faith and the importance of Easter, highlighting the values he aims to uphold in the administration.
Vice President JD Vance also joined the observances, having traveled to Italy to participate in Good Friday Mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica. Vance expressed appreciation for his role during this significant week, emphasizing the importance of family and faith.
The 2025 observance of Holy Week at the White House marks a clear distinction from previous administrations, reflecting a renewed focus on Christian celebrations during important holidays. As America prepares for Easter Sunday, celebrations are expected to resonate with themes of hope and faith, firmly aligning with the traditions that have characterized American culture for generations.
