Metro Detroit Snowfall Forecast

DETROIT, Mich. — Metro Detroit residents may experience their first snowfall of the season this weekend, bringing an abrupt end to mild fall weather. Meteorologists predict a mix of rain and snow as temperatures drop.

The forecast for Friday indicates a rainy day, with high temperatures in the upper 50s and strong winds gusting over 30 mph. Commuters should prepare for wet conditions in the morning, with rain tapering off by evening.

On Saturday, temperatures will drop significantly, reaching only the upper 40s. Windows will be cloudy, but no precipitation is expected until late Saturday night. Snow is forecasted to arrive overnight, transitioning from rain to snow by Sunday evening.

As of now, the best chance of accumulating snow appears to be in the northwestern suburbs, with potential totals up to two inches in some areas. However, the east side may only see a light dusting, depending on the track of the low-pressure system.

“Measurable snow” refers to an accumulation of at least one-tenth of an inch, and forecasters anticipate that this snowfall will qualify as the season’s first measurable snow. The challenge lies in predicting exact totals and the extent of the snow’s impact.

On Sunday, temperatures are expected to fall even further, with highs in the upper 30s and bone-chilling wind chills early Monday morning, possibly plunging to around 10 degrees. Residents are advised to ensure their children are dressed warmly as they prepare for school.

In the wake of these changes, meteorologists will continue to refine the snow forecast over the next few days. For now, Detroiters should brace for colder weather and light snow chances, marking the arrival of winter.
