Five Notable Figures To Be Honored With Bharat Ratna In 2024

Five distinguished individuals are set to be posthumously honored with the prestigious Bharat Ratna for their exceptional contributions to the nation in 2024. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, along with agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, will be among the recipients of this esteemed recognition.

PV Narasimha Rao, a revered statesman and scholar, played a pivotal role in transforming India’s economy through his visionary leadership. Hailing from Andhra Pradesh, he served as the Prime Minister from 1991 to 1996, introducing significant economic reforms that laid the foundation for the country’s prosperity and growth.

Chaudhary Charan Singh, a prominent Jat leader from western Uttar Pradesh, is being honored for his unparalleled contributions to Indian politics. As a former Prime Minister during 1979-80, Singh was instrumental in shaping anti-Congress politics during a pivotal era in the nation’s history.

MS Swaminathan, a distinguished agriculture scientist, will posthumously receive the Bharat Ratna for his monumental contributions to Indian agriculture and the welfare of farmers. His visionary efforts in revolutionizing the agricultural sector ensured food security and prosperity for the Indian population.

LK Advani and Karpoori Thakur were previously announced as Bharat Ratna awardees, making it a total of five recipients for the year 2024. Thakur, fondly known as ‘Jan Nayak,’ served as the chief minister of Bihar, earning the respect and admiration of the people for his socialist leadership.

The allocation of the Bharat Ratna to these outstanding figures underscores their enduring legacy and indelible impact on Indian society, honoring their remarkable achievements and service to the nation.
