ORLANDO, Florida — A recent study by Nieuwe Casinos ranks America’s favorite theme parks, and surprising results show that Disney parks do not dominate the list. Instead, Discovery Cove in Orlando has taken the top spot.

The all-inclusive resort received a perfect 5-star rating from over 85% of its guests. Discovery Cove offers a unique combination of marine attractions and idyllic relaxation, serving as the sister park to SeaWorld Orlando and Aquatica Orlando.

Following Discovery Cove, Knoebels Amusement Resort in Pennsylvania secured second place with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5 stars on Google and 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. This family-owned amusement park is well-known for its nostalgic charm, making it a favorite among visitors.

In third place is the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster in Tennessee, famed for having the second-longest downhill track in the U.S. The coaster, which takes riders on a 7-8 minute journey, has been praised by many for its thrilling experience.

Universal Islands of Adventure in Florida ranked fourth, drawing visitors with its exciting movie-themed attractions, including the popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic Park.

Completing the top five is Disney California Adventure, known for its more adult-oriented offerings compared to its neighboring Disneyland. The park provides a variety of attractions that cater to a broader audience.

The full list of the highest-rated theme parks in America according to the study is as follows:

1. Discovery Cove, Florida
2. Knoebels Amusement Resort, Pennsylvania
3. Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster, Tennessee
4. Universal Islands of Adventure, Florida
5. Disney California Adventure, California
6. Magic Kingdom, Florida
7. Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Florida
8. Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Florida
9. Universal Studios Florida, Florida
10. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Indiana

The findings suggest a shift in consumer preference, with many opting for parks that provide diverse attractions beyond the traditional Disney experience. Despite their beloved status, Disney’s parks are facing rising costs; it was reported that a two-day trip for a family of four can cost almost $3,000, excluding airfare and lodging.

As the theme park industry adapts, it will be interesting to see how both Disney and other parks respond to changing visitor expectations and preferences.
