Former actor Laurence Fox is now under police investigation following widespread criticism for sharing an explicit photograph of broadcaster Narinder Kaur online without her consent.

There is no suggestion that Mr. Fox has committed any offense, but the social media post has sparked outrage.

Mr. Fox posted the explicit image of Ms. Kaur on X, formerly known as Twitter, without her approval during a dispute over their conflicting political views and opinions.

According to sources, the post remained online until Thursday and was then taken down, leading to an investigation by law enforcement authorities.

The Independent reported that a statement from the police mentioned being “made aware of a post on social media regarding an upskirting offense,” with ongoing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The controversy arose after Mr. Fox, aged 45, shared the now-deleted image on his X account coupled with a caption that read, “It’s not my fault she forgot to put her pants on,” triggering condemnation from his followers and the online community.

Reacting to the backlash, Mr. Fox defended his actions, stating, “I don’t take the photo[s] and I didn’t forget to put my pants on. Jog on.”

TV presenter Ms. Kaur addressed the situation on Thursday morning, announcing, “This is now a police matter,” and expressing her profound embarrassment and distress caused by the unauthorized sharing of the private image.

Ms. Kaur further shared her extreme discomfort at the thought of people viewing the private photo and deriving amusement from it, emphasizing how mortifying the ordeal has been for her.

Upskirting, which became a criminal offense in England and Wales in 2019, and had already been outlawed in Scotland in 2010, is a subject of legal scrutiny in this case.

The Voyeurism (Offences) Act 2019 outlines the laws pertaining to the illicit capture of images under someone’s clothing without consent, especially with the intention of causing humiliation, distress, or alarm.

Additionally, the act of distributing private sexual content of another individual without their authorization, aiming to cause embarrassment or distress, is considered a sexual offense under the Criminal Justice and Courts Act 2015.

The incident has drawn attention to the ongoing discussions around individual privacy, online behavior, and the legal ramifications of sharing explicit content without consent.

Given the seriousness of the case, with legal implications under recent legislation, the situation highlights the need for a thorough investigation and appropriate action to address the concerns raised by the unauthorized dissemination of private images.

Mr. Fox has been contacted for comment regarding the incident as the investigation unfolds.
