Former Air Canada Manager Set to Surrender in Gold Heist Case
The former Air Canada manager, wanted in connection with the large gold heist at Toronto‘s Pearson International Airport, is making arrangements to surrender, as confirmed by his lawyer. Simran Preet Panesar, the key figure in this case, faces significant charges related to the theft of over $20 million in gold.
Panesar, who left his position at Air Canada and vanished, is now taking the steps to return voluntarily to Canada for the legal proceedings. His attorney, Greg Lafontaine, expressed Panesar’s confidence in the Canadian justice system, assuring his eventual exoneration.
Peel Regional Police disclosed that Panesar is currently overseas tidying up his affairs before coming back to face the charges. Meanwhile, speculation suggests he may have been in India with his wife, Preety Panesar, a former Miss India Uganda.
Leading up to the heist, Simran and Preety were involved in the entertainment industry, notably in the Punjabi sector, as they worked on projects together like the film Zeba. Preety’s post-heist activities and whereabouts have been the subject of public scrutiny.
The theft of 400 kilograms of gold and foreign currencies from an Air Canada cargo facility involved a precise operation, with a substantial amount of the stolen goods later recovered. The ongoing investigation has seen various arrests and charges against multiple suspects across borders.
One of the implicated individuals, Archit Grover, was apprehended in Canada, following a chain of events that stretched into the U.S. involving entities like the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Pennsylvania State Troopers.
As the legal proceedings progress, the intricate details of the heist and the subsequent events are slowly coming to light, with the involvement of additional suspects and parties being unveiled, both in Canada and the U.S.
