A state funeral is underway in Montreal to pay tribute to Brian Mulroney, former Canadian Prime Minister and Progressive Conservative titan. The solemn event is taking place at the historic Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal to honor his legacy and contributions to the nation.
The ceremony began with the tolling of the cathedral’s iconic carillon bells, marking each of Mulroney’s 84 years of life. A procession led by the RCMP and a guard of honour accompanied his casket on a reverent journey to the cathedral.
Among the notable speakers at the state funeral were Caroline Mulroney, daughter of Brian Mulroney, who shared touching memories of her father’s dedication and love for family. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also reflected on Mulroney’s deep commitment to service and leadership.
