Former Intel India Head Avtar Saini Fatally Hit by Cab in Navi Mumbai
A tragic incident unfolded in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, as former Intel India country head, Avtar Saini, met with a fatal accident. The 68-year-old Saini was cycling on the Palm Beach Road in Nerul when a speeding cab struck him early Wednesday morning around 5:50 am.
The driver of the cab, identified as Rishikesh Khade, reportedly stated to the authorities that he lost control of his vehicle as he had been driving throughout the night and dozed off at the wheel. This lapse led to the cab colliding with Saini while he was riding his bicycle.
Following the collision, Saini’s companions rushed him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he was declared dead upon arrival. Saini, a resident of Chembur in Mumbai, had made significant contributions during his tenure at Intel India, particularly in the development of the Intel 386 and 486 microprocessors, as well as leading the design of the Pentium processor.
The police swiftly intervened in the matter, registering a case against the cab driver, Rishikesh Khade. The charges against Khade include sections under the Indian Penal Code for rash driving, causing hurt by negligence endangering human life, and causing death by a negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide, in addition to violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Despite the gravity of the incident, the authorities have not yet arrested the accused driver as the potential sentence for the charges filed against him is below seven years. Meanwhile, Saini’s family, who are based abroad, are en route to India to perform his last rites.
