Former Vatican Ambassador Carlo Maria Viganò Urges Catholics to Support Trump Over Harris

Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, a former Vatican ambassador to the United States, has issued a stark warning to American Catholics in an open letter, urging them to vote for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election rather than Vice President Kamala Harris. Viganò, who served as the Apostolic Nuncio to the U.S. during the Obama administration from 2011 to 2016, has been a vocal critic of Pope Francis and has now taken a firm stance in the U.S. presidential election.

In his letter, Viganò describes Harris as an “infernal monster who obeys Satan,” and argues that voting for her would be “morally inadmissible and constitutes a very grave sin.” He portrays the election as a choice between “democracy and dictatorship, between freedom and slavery,” emphasizing that Trump, despite his flaws, particularly on issues like abortion and assisted procreation, aims to protect the “fundamental freedoms of citizens”.

Viganò paints a dire picture of an America under Harris’ leadership, suggesting that Catholics and Protestants would be marginalized and their children would be considered “the property of the State.” He accuses Harris of being a “puppet” of influential figures such as former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and liberal megadonor George Soros. In contrast, Viganò sees Trump as committed to “freeing America” from the “deep state”.

The former archbishop, who was excommunicated from the Catholic Church in July for schism, criticizes the current state of America under the Biden-Harris administration, describing cities as “dumps filled with derelicts and criminals” and schools as “dens of indoctrination and corruption.” He warns that the woke left, if it gains power, will establish a “vicious, anti-human, and anti-Christian dictatorship”.

Viganò’s letter is part of a broader effort to influence Catholic voters, who are historically a significant demographic in U.S. elections. His stance reflects the deep divisions within the Catholic Church and the broader political landscape in the United States.
