Former players of the Tigres de Victoriaville, Nicolas Daigle and Massimo Siciliano, have been sentenced to jail time for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old teenager. The incident took place following their victory in the final of the Maritime Quebec Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) in June 2021.

Daigle received a 32-month sentence, while Siciliano was sentenced to 30 months. Siciliano continued to sexually assault the victim after Daigle had left the room.

The sentencing judge opted for a penitentiary sentence, dismissing the possibility of a community sentence, despite the positive profiles of the 21-year-old individuals showing potential for favorable social reintegration.

The assault occurred in a room at the Entourage-sur-le-Lac hotel in Lac-Beauport, where the Tigres were staying during the President’s Cup final tournament held at the Centre Vidéotron due to the pandemic.

The victim had agreed to join Daigle in his room for sexual relations, but had insisted on being alone with him and had declined his invitations for a threesome.

Despite this, when she arrived at the hotel room, she found herself facing both Daigle and Siciliano, whom she did not know.

The victim testified during the sentencing hearing, expressing her feelings of being trapped in a situation beyond her control. The judge acknowledged her courage and strength in the face of her vulnerability.

Following the sentencing, Massimo Siciliano’s defense lawyer announced plans to appeal the decision. Daigle’s lawyers declined to comment, stating they would evaluate the situation before deciding on an appeal.

In addition to imprisonment, Daigle and Siciliano will be required to provide DNA samples for police genetic databases and will be registered on the sex offenders list for the next 20 years.

Hockey Canada and the Maritime Quebec Junior Hockey League did not offer comments on the sentencing.
