Founder Of Ireign Christian Ministry Sentenced To Life Imprisonment For Rape

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court has delivered its verdict on the case involving founder of iReign Christian Ministry, Feyi Daniels, who was accused of raping a church member. The trial judge, Rahman Oshodi, found the Lagos-based cleric guilty of rape and sexual assault.

The court proceedings revealed that Bishop Daniels had a personal relationship with the four women who accused him of sexual assault. He had counseled one of the women, provided financial assistance for another’s hospital treatment, paid school fees for a third woman, and interacted with the fourth woman as a leader in the campus fellowship affiliated with his ministry at Akungba-Akobo in Ondo State.

During the trial, the bishop denied giving money to one of the women for medical treatment and claimed that three of the women conspired against him. However, he acknowledged that one of the women later apologized to him. When questioned about the nature of the accusations, which were all sexual in nature, the bishop said he was unaware of the reasons.

On Friday, January 26th, the court sentenced Bishop Daniels to life imprisonment for rape and three years imprisonment for sexual assault, to be served concurrently. Additionally, he was acquitted on two counts of rape and attempted rape. The court ordered that his name be registered in the Lagos State sex offenders register, and he will serve his jail term at the Kirikiri maximum prison where he has been detained.

The judge emphasized that rape carries a mandatory life imprisonment sentence and sexual assault carries a jail term of three years. In justifying the sentencing, the court stated that the convict posed a significant risk to society due to his dominant character and position within the church.

Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, founder and senior pastor of iReign Christian Family, describes himself as “The prophet you should meet and the last you will ever need to meet.” Born in Ekiti State and raised in Ogba, Lagos State, he has also worked as a businessman and is involved in running business schools and managing multinational institutions.
