Fox News Segment Will Cain Jim Himes Signal Chat Debate

WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Jim Himes, D-Conn., sharply criticized Fox News host Will Cain during a heated exchange on ‘The Will Cain Show’ on March 25, 2025, after Cain described Democratic outrage over a Signal group chat leak as an attempt to gain ‘political points.’

n

The controversy erupted after a private group chat, involving members of the Trump administration discussing military actions regarding Yemen, was accidentally exposed to The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg. Cain acknowledged the leak was a mistake but argued that the Democrats were overstating its significance.

n

During the debate, Cain said, “We agree it’s a mistake. On that we agree. You inserted the word serious, and that is the weight of this debate.” He accused Himes of using the incident to unify Democrats in an attack against Republicans. Cain added, “What you’re doing is ramping up the hyperbolic response by calling it a serious mistake,” challenging the assertion that American lives were jeopardized by the error.

n

Himes responded emphatically, stating, “I’m not going to listen to you tell me that this is about a partisan advantage. It is a mistake, and yes, it is a very serious mistake.” He elaborated on the potential ramifications of the leak, saying, “In a Signal chat, we know that the Russians could intercept. It is by the grace of God that we don’t have dead pilots or sunken ships right now.”

n

As the exchange became more acerbic, Cain accused Himes of resorting to hyperbole for political gain. Himes quipped back, “You are the one that is making this into a partisan issue. We are talking about the lives of our young men and women.” He expressed frustration at Cain’s framing of the issue, saying, “It makes me want to throw up to hear you turn this into a partisan issue when we are talking about the lives of our airmen and Marines and sailors.”

n

Himes concluded his argument by emphasizing the severity of the situation, stating, “You cannot run a segment cheering Medal of Honor winners, many of whom win posthumously, and tell me that this mistake is about partisan advantage.” The tense debate highlighted the deep divisions in the current political climate surrounding national security issues.

n

This incident marks a significant point of contention as discussions around the security implications of the leak continue to unfold in political circles.
