Frank Onyeka Discusses Transition from English Premier League to Bundesliga with FC Augsburg
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has expressed his views on the differences between playing in the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League. The Nigerian international, who recently joined FC Augsburg on a late loan from Brentford, is experiencing a new challenge after three seasons in the Premier League.
In an exclusive interview, Onyeka shared details about his new journey in Germany, emphasizing the contrasting styles of play between the two leagues. “It’s going well. I thank God it’s going really well. I’m helping the team as much as I can. But the main difference is that they run a lot more in Germany. I’m still trying to adapt to the club, but the players are doing their best to help me settle in,” Onyeka explained to Nigerian journalist Sulaiman Adebayo.
Onyeka’s recent move to FC Augsburg came as a surprise to many football enthusiasts, particularly as it was finalized on the last day of the English transfer window. This decision was influenced by his desire for consistent playing time, which he found uncertain at Brentford. “I spoke to the coach and everyone at the club. I asked the coach about his plans for me, and he said I would play, but for me, I needed to start games consistently. That’s why I took the decision to move to Germany,” he clarified.
Frank Onyeka made 78 appearances, scoring once and providing four assists during his tenure with Brentford. However, he indicated that his role under Brentford’s head coach, Thomas Frank, was not as assured as he had hoped. “He said he would start me in some games and mix it up, but I needed to be in the starting XI,” Onyeka added.
Since joining FC Augsburg, Onyeka has already featured in seven matches, contributing one assist. His new team is currently positioned 13th in the Bundesliga standings, as they continue to strategize for an upward move in the league tables.
