Freezing Rain Warning in Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent
Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, bringing the potential for slippery conditions and power outages. The warning states that patchy freezing rain is expected to begin Monday night, with more persistent freezing rain forecasted for Tuesday morning.
Roads, parking lots, and walkways may become slippery due to the accumulation of two to four millimeters of ice. This icy condition could also cause tree branches to break, leading to possible utility outages. To stay safe, residents are advised to take caution while traveling and to be prepared for potential power disruptions.
The freezing rain is expected to transition to rain or snow by Tuesday afternoon as temperatures rise above zero. By Tuesday evening, periods of rain or drizzle are anticipated.
This weather shift marks a change in the weekly forecast, as rain replaces the cold wintry conditions experienced in the past few days. After enduring travel advisories and snow squalls, Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent will now face the challenges posed by freezing rain.
The upcoming weather predictions include snowfall, with a total amount ranging from 5 to 10 centimeters. Tuesday’s temperatures will reach a high of zero degrees Celsius, with a wind chill of minus 6 degrees in the morning. The following days will remain cloudy, with a 60 percent chance of showers expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
