Hollywood actor Mark Ruffalo recently voiced skepticism towards French President Emmanuel Macron‘s dedication to democracy in light of strategic political moves in the upcoming legislative election.

Ruffalo, known for his role as the Hulk in the Avengers franchise, took to social media as Macron’s centrist camp deliberated on potential strategic withdrawals to curb the far-right National Rally‘s advancements in the parliament.

Following a report outlining the unexpected unity within France’s left-wing coalition to counter the National Rally post the first-round vote, candidates faced a deadline to withdraw from run-off races, aiming to consolidate support against the far-right party.

The decision to unite against the National Rally saw centrist and left-wing candidates reluctantly banding together to hinder Marine Le Pen‘s party from seizing a majority.

More than 200 candidates had withdrawn by the Tuesday evening deadline, signaling a joint effort to prevent the National Rally from gaining significant influence.

Voters are currently engaged in selecting lawmakers for the French National Assembly‘s 577 electoral districts, with 289 seats required for an outright majority.

French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, part of Macron’s camp, urged centrist voters to shift support from the far-left France Unbowed to counter the National Rally’s rise.

Journalist Laura Kayali also played a role in covering the developments surrounding the unified opposition against the National Rally in the legislative election.
