Gabbard Refers Leakers to DOJ Amid Intelligence Community Scrutiny

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced on Wednesday that she has referred two intelligence community employees to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution. This action comes in the wake of alleged leaks of classified information to media outlets including the Washington Post and the New York Times.
An official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) told Fox News Digital that a third criminal referral is also forthcoming. They emphasized that these referrals serve as a warning to other intelligence professionals about the serious consequences of leaking information.
Gabbard stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of national security. “Politicization of our intelligence and leaking classified information puts our nation’s security at risk and must end,” she said. “Those who leak classified information will be found and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
In her announcement, Gabbard indicated that the referrals included a recent leak that she claims was used to undermine President Trump’s agenda. “These deep-state criminals leaked classified information for partisan political purposes,” she stated.
The ODNI official elaborated that an internal review prompted the decision to refer the cases to the DOJ. Once the referral is received by the department, a formal criminal investigation will begin.
Following her appointment, Gabbard established a new task force aimed at restoring transparency and accountability within the intelligence community. This initiative, known as the Director’s Initiative Group (DIG), aims to counteract politicization and address unauthorized disclosures of sensitive intelligence.
Gabbard has also taken steps to hold employees accountable for their actions, including those involved in unauthorized communications within NSA chatrooms.
“We are aggressively investigating other leaks and will pursue further criminal referrals as warranted,” the official stated. “Any intelligence community bureaucrat who is considering leaking to the media should take this as a warning.”
The announcement follows a report by the Washington Post, which cited unnamed intelligence sources claiming that the Venezuelan government is not planning an invasion of the U.S., contrary to assertions made by Trump. Gabbard condemned the leak as a manipulation of intelligence that could mislead public perception.
As the investigation progresses, Gabbard remains committed to working with the Department of Justice and the FBI to hold accountable those who misuse classified information.
