Gambling on Love: ‘On Swift Horses’ Trailer Revealed

TORONTO, Canada – The highly anticipated film ‘On Swift Horses,’ directed by Daniel Minahan, is set for a U.S. release on April 25, 2025, following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.

Based on Shannon Pufahl’s 2019 novel, this indie drama takes place in the 1950s. It tells the story of Lee (Will Poulter), a Korean War veteran, who dreams of starting anew in California with his wife, Muriel (Daisy Edgar-Jones). Their plans are complicated by the unexpected arrival of Lee’s brother, Julius (Jacob Elordi), also a veteran and a charismatic gambler.

As the siblings navigate their relationship, the film explores themes of love, secrecy, and the complexities of family ties. Muriel finds herself drawn into a world of gambling and a secret life that challenges her marriage and sense of self. The film’s trailer hints at the emotional stakes as the characters grapple with their desires and the consequences of their choices.

“On Swift Horses is a stunning tableau of almost-romances, weaving together moments of magic with the pain that inevitably follows,” IndieWire stated during its film review. The absence of a conventional villain adds depth to the narrative, as even the protagonist struggles with his own role in the unfolding drama.

Actor Jacob Elordi shared insights into his preparation for the role, revealing, “I just watched Paul Newman’s movies and tried to build a voice around the way that he spoke.” Elordi emphasized the collaborative environment created by Minahan, allowing the cast to explore their characters intimately.

The film is produced by Minahan along with Peter Spears and Tim Headington from Ley Line Entertainment. Financing support came from Ley Line and First Gen, with production managed by Killer Films.
