Gavin & Stacey Final Christmas Special Completes Filming
The iconic British sitcom “Gavin & Stacey” is set to air its final episode during the upcoming Christmas season. The creators, James Corden and Ruth Jones, have confirmed that the Christmas special will indeed mark the conclusion of the beloved show. The filming, which took place over the course of more than a month, has officially wrapped up, as announced by the BBC.
The final episode was completed earlier this month with the actors, including Ruth Jones, James Corden, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon, and Melanie Walters, being spotted leaving the Tadross Hotel, a notable filming location known within the show as The Dolphin pub. Fans gathered outside the venue to catch glimpses of the cast during the final filming sessions.
In an Instagram post, the series creators shared a photograph of a clapperboard bearing the title “Gavin & Stacey: The Finale,” with the caption stating, “And that’s a wrap… for the last time ever. See you on Christmas Day!”
The announcement has elicited mixed reactions from fans, who have responded with both excitement and sadness. Enthusiasts of the series have long awaited a continuation since the unresolved storyline from the last Christmas special, where Smithy faced a proposal from Nessa. Many have tried to visit filming sites, gathering in hopes of seeing the show’s stars for what might be the last time.
During the filming, Jones addressed the crowds, thanking them for their support and commitment to following the series. “This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won’t be seeing us here anymore but we’ve had a wonderful 17 years,” she stated, reflecting on the show’s enduring popularity and emotional significance for both cast and viewers alike.
The special episode was previously confirmed in May, with James Corden sharing an image of himself and Ruth Jones holding the script inscribed with “Gavin and Stacey: The finale.” Both co-creators have expressed gratitude to the audience and the network, stating that the story will conclude on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Christmas Day.
