Gayle King Jesse Watters Flight Selfie

New York, NY — Gayle King, co-host of CBS Mornings, faced backlash after posting a selfie with Fox News host Jesse Watters. The photo, shared on Instagram, was taken during a cross-country flight on Monday, October 20, and drew swift criticism from many progressive voices on social media.

In her post, King captioned the image, “Two TV people from competing networks walk on to a plane and to the surprise of them both, they’re seated right next to each other for over four hours. How did it go? Speaking for @jessewatters here: A good time was had by all! Hi, Jesse…saving your number!” Despite the lighthearted tone, many viewers expressed their disapproval.

Users on Bluesky condemned King for her interaction with Watters, a figure many see as controversial due to his conservative views. One user remarked, “Gayle this is NOT IT,” while rapper Talib Kweli added, “Nah Gayle this ain’t it.” Others claimed the moment was a reflection of King’s declining principles, with comments like, “Oprah’s tone-deaf bestie not reading the room.”

The criticism comes at a significant time for King, as her future at CBS News has been under scrutiny amid potential network changes. King reportedly earns between $13 million and $15 million annually, and as her contract is set to expire in May, speculation about her role has increased. With staff members concerned about potential layoffs, some insiders believe King might face repositioning within the network.

This incident also sparked memories of a previous encounter between King and Watters. In 2019, Watters mistakenly referred to King as fellow anchor Robin Roberts, later apologizing for the mix-up on-air by holding a sign that read, “I’m sorry Gayle + Robin.”

The Post has reached out to both CBS News and Fox News for comments regarding the recent selfie and its fallout. As of now, both networks have not provided responses.
