Gaza: The Tragic Story of Yazan El-Kafarna
The loss of nine-year-old Yazan, known as Yazouna by his mother, casts a shadow over the El-Kafarna family’s humble abode in Gaza’s Rafah.
They reside in a makeshift shelter outside an UNRWA school, constructed by Sharif El-Kafarna, where they endure cramped living conditions.
Yazan, who suffered from cerebral palsy since infancy due to a previous Israeli assault in 2014, thrived in Beit Hanoon prior to the recent conflict.
His parents diligently provided him with special nutrition, supplements, and healthcare to ensure his well-being.
Tragically, the war disrupted Yazan’s routine, depriving him of vital resources that sustained his health and development.
His health deteriorated during the relentless conflict, and he passed away on March 4, leaving a void in the El-Kafarna family.
Yazan’s absence is profoundly felt by his family, especially during their first Ramadan without him.
His parents recall his vibrant spirit, with his father reminiscing about Yazan’s joy during physiotherapy sessions and his mother cherishing their close bond and shared moments.
Despite the hardship, the family reflects on the cherished memories of Yazan and the love that surrounded him.
Yazan’s story reflects the devastating impact of conflict on vulnerable individuals like him, highlighting the urgent need for continued support and assistance for children with special needs in conflict zones.
