Georgia Election 2024: Live Results and Key Races
On November 5, 2024, Georgia voters are casting ballots in various elections, including the state’s 14 congressional districts, as well as other state and federal races. The elections are being closely watched due to Georgia’s status as a crucial swing state in the presidential election.
In the congressional races, several key districts are in contention. In the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Patti Hewitt is challenging Republican incumbent Buddy Carter. The 2nd District features incumbent Democrat Sanford Bishop against Republican Wayne Johnson. The 3rd District sees Democrat Maura Keller running against Republican Brian Jack, while in the 4th District, incumbent Democrat Hank Johnson faces Republican Eugene Yu and independent candidate Ansel Postell.
Other notable races include the 5th Congressional District, where incumbent Democrat Nikema Williams is running against Republican John Salvesen, and the 6th District, where Democrat Lucy McBath, the incumbent, is competing against Republican Jeff Criswell. The 7th District features Democrat Bob Christian against Republican incumbent Rich McCormick, who swapped districts due to midcycle redistricting.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has indicated that election results are expected to be reported by the end of the night, thanks to a smooth voting process and high early voting turnout. Over 4 million ballots were cast during early voting, with more than half of Georgia’s 7.2 million registered voters already participating. Raffensperger noted short wait times and emphasized efforts to enhance voter security and speed in reporting.
The state has also seen minor security concerns, including a threat linked to Russian-origin cyber activity, but Raffensperger assured that these issues are under control. Despite some residents reporting confusion over polling location changes, the overall voting process has been described as smooth.
