Georgia GOP Expels Former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan Over Alleged Disloyalty
ATLANTA, Ga. — The Georgia Republican Party has expelled former Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan from its ranks, citing alleged disloyalty and efforts to undermine GOP candidates. The State Executive Committee unanimously approved the resolution on Jan. 6, 2025, banning Duncan from all party properties, events, and future candidacies under the GOP banner.
The resolution accuses Duncan of endorsing Democratic candidates, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race, and using his Republican affiliation for personal gain. It also claims he undermined GOP figures such as Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and failed Senate candidate Herschel Walker.
In a post on X, Duncan criticized the decision, calling it a waste of time for a party focused on issues like mass deportations and global tariffs. “Hard to believe this is a good use of time for a party that’s only got a limited amount of time to figure out mass deportations, world peace, and global tariffs,” he wrote, addressing Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon.
The resolution demands that Duncan cease identifying as a Republican and urges media outlets to refer to him as an “expelled Republican.” It also expunges his previous GOP nominations for lieutenant governor and state House of Representatives, both of which he won in primary and general elections.
Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon has accused Duncan of aligning with “extreme elements of the Democratic Party” and using his platform as a CNN commentator to attack the Republican Party. Duncan, however, maintains that he is a Republican working to steer the party away from former President Donald Trump‘s influence.
The expulsion marks a significant escalation in the ongoing rift between Duncan and the Georgia GOP, reflecting broader divisions within the party as it navigates its post-Trump identity.
