Giant Eagle’s Thanksgiving Hours: Shop Early for Holiday Essentials
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania — As Thanksgiving approaches, shoppers can prepare to gather their last-minute ingredients at Giant Eagle and Market District stores. All locations will open their doors until 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, providing a brief window for those who need any essential items.
Local resident Lori Downing shared her strategy for the holiday, saying, “I realized, oh, I could buy all my pantry staples and save some money if I just stock up now.” Many customers, like Downing, are opting for smaller gatherings this year to save money while still enjoying the holiday.
In addition to grocery needs, shoppers are purchasing decorations to make their homes festive for visitors. One shopper mentioned tidying up her bearded dragon’s display with seasonal decorations to accommodate guests.
The spokesperson for Giant Eagle emphasized the focus on Thanksgiving staples, presenting discounts on fresh items favored by customers. They confirmed that staff will be increased to maintain stocked shelves during the busy shopping season.
A report from the Wells Fargo AgriFood Institute reveals that despite a 2.7% increase in food prices in 2025, overall Thanksgiving menu costs are expected to drop by 2% to 3% this year. Shoppers are advised to consider making one large shopping trip to save time and stress.
While many are busy preparing for the holiday rush, shoppers are also reminded to express gratitude during the season. One customer shared, “I’m blessed. Every day. I thank God for all that I have and I just try to go with the flow.”
For those needing to make last-minute purchases on Thanksgiving, additional grocery options include Whole Foods, Dave’s Market, and Meijer, all of which will have extended hours during the holiday.
