Giga Kick Returns To The Track After Injury

Giga Kick, the star sprinter, is back in action after a recovery from injury. He showed off his skills during a recent jumpout at Mornington, where he finished second in an 800-meter workout. Trainer Clayton Douglas, who used to be a jockey, rode him in this significant warm-up.

Douglas shared that he was pleased with Giga Kick’s performance and was optimistic about what’s ahead. ‘I was really happy with what I felt,’ he said after the jumpout. ‘He began and I brought him back, and he traveled nicely.’ It’s a promising sign as Giga Kick prepares for more serious trials in Sydney next week.

He’s set to head to Randwick this Friday for a trial, which will be the first of two before the $1 million Group 3 Concorde Stakes happening on September 7. Giga Kick hasn’t raced since the McEwen Stakes in September last year, where he finished third, but expectations are high for his return.

The jumpout included other notable contenders like Coleman, who placed second in the Golden Slipper. Douglas noted that this session was beneficial for Giga Kick, allowing him to stretch his legs and get used to competition again. He will spend the rest of the week recovering at the beach before gearing up for his Sydney campaign.

Giga Kick, known for winning The Everest in 2022, is on track with his preparations. Following the Concorde Stakes, he will also contest the G2 Premiere Stakes on October 5, with the ultimate aim of defending his title in The Everest two weeks later.
