Gigi Becali Presidential Candidacy Announcement

București, România — Gigi Becali announced that he will not run for the Romanian presidency after the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) rejected independent candidate Călin Georgescu‘s candidacy. The decision to block Georgescu was made by a 10-4 vote among the BEC members, according to political sources.

Becali revealed that he was initially prepared to enter the race solely to prevent Georgescu from winning. However, after considering the electoral circumstances, he opted not to pursue a presidential campaign.

“If there have been 1,300 challenges, you can see where it stands. They have been shown on television for everyone to see. I am no longer interested in running. My concern was solely whether he would run,” Becali stated in an interview with ProSport.

He further expressed his sense of duty: “I have a sacred obligation. If I see a wolf in sheep’s clothing or a false prophet, I must warn people because God has given me the gift to understand faith better. There have been atheists and people of different faiths as presidents in Romania, but I have never seen anyone contest Genesis. Călin Georgescu, in my opinion, has demons. You will see that he will not become president of Romania. I have that obligation, I will run,” Becali declared at the Parliament Palace.

In the event that George Simion decides not to run, Becali indicated he would step up as an independent candidate. “I will wait for Simion to return from the USA, and I will ask him face to face if he will run. If not, I will run myself. Why? Because I see that no one else can beat Georgescu,” he announced.
