Gina Carano Sues Disney And Lucasfilm Over Firing From 'the Mandalorian'

Former MMA fighter turned actor, Gina Carano, has filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm, claiming wrongful termination from the hit TV show ‘The Mandalorian’. The controversial firing came after Carano made several ‘abhorrent’ social media posts that allegedly denigrated people based on their cultural and religious identities.

The posts that sparked the controversy included a comparison between the treatment of American conservatives to Jews in Nazi Germany. Carano also ridiculed mask-wearing during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic and spread conspiracy theories about the 2020 election. Subsequently, she was dropped by her agency UTA and removed from the show by Disney.

Carano argues that her Twitter posts were used as a pretext to silence her right-wing opinions and that Disney and Lucasfilm sought to enforce a specific ideological narrative. The lawsuit further alleges that her male co-stars were allowed to make derogatory statements about Republicans without facing any consequences.

The legal complaint, which seeks $75,000 in damages along with her reinstatement on ‘The Mandalorian,’ accuses Disney and Lucasfilm of sexual discrimination and wrongful discharge. It also claims that Carano was subjected to harassment and defamation for refusing to conform to the companies’ preferred viewpoints.

In the lawsuit, it is revealed that Carano was asked by Disney to meet with LGBTQ+ group Glaad after engaging in online behavior deemed as anti-trans. However, Carano declined this and a subsequent meeting with LGBTQ+ Disney employees, leading to her termination shortly after.

Elon Musk, the owner of X, offered financial support for Carano’s lawsuit. X’s head of business operations, Joe Benarroch, stated that the company stands for free speech and aims to prevent harassment and discrimination. Carano expressed her gratitude for Musk’s assistance, thanking him for coming to her defense.

Following her departure from ‘The Mandalorian,’ Carano partnered with Ben Shapiro’s right-wing news website, The Daily Wire, to produce the western movie ‘Terror on the Prairie.’ She also appeared alongside Laurence Fox in ‘My Son Hunter,’ a drama distributed by Breitbart that examines the life of Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden.

Disney and Lucasfilm have not yet responded to the lawsuit. The outcome of the legal battle will likely have significant implications for the entertainment industry’s handling of online speech and expression.
