San Antonio Mayoral Election 2025 Results

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Gina Ortiz Jones has surged to an early lead in the San Antonio mayoral race, with early voting results showing she garnered 26.54% of the votes as of 7:52 p.m. on May 3, 2025. The municipal election is drawing attention as voters select a new mayor and all ten city council seats, marking a pivotal moment in the city’s governance.

In the wake of Ron Nirenberg’s departure, 27 candidates are vying for the mayoral position. With a significant number of candidates in the running, a runoff election seems unavoidable since no candidate is expected to exceed the required 50% of the votes outright. The top two vote-getters will advance to the runoff scheduled for June 7.

Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos follows Ortiz Jones with 15.27% of the votes, while tech entrepreneur Beto Altamirano trails with 12.42%. The high number of candidates includes both experienced politicians and newcomers, fueling a dynamic election atmosphere. Among the contenders are several current and former city council members, including Manny Pelaez and Adriana Rocha Garcia.

The San Antonio City Council and mayoral winners will serve four-year terms, a change implemented following a voter-approved adjustment in term limits. Voter turnout in Bexar County was reported at 6.2%, slightly up from previous elections, reflecting a growing engagement in local politics.

Amidst significant issues facing the city—such as affordable housing, public safety, and economic growth—candidates are focusing their campaigns on bridging community needs with effective governance. Ortiz Jones has emphasized transparency as a critical factor, aiming to address the concerns of residents regarding local projects and policies.

Polling places across Bexar County opened from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on May 3, providing ample opportunity for voters to engage in this crucial election. As the results come in, San Antonio residents are watching closely, anticipating the impacts of their chosen leaders on the future of the city.
