Gombe State Government Set to Implement New Minimum Wage
The government of Gombe State has announced its readiness to implement the newly set national minimum wage of N70,000, beginning in October. This declaration was made by Dr. Manasseh Daniel Jatau, the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Negotiation Committee, during a press briefing on Thursday, following a meeting with labor leaders in the state.
Dr. Jatau confirmed that the Gombe State Government is prepared to commence payment of the increased minimum wage, noting that a technical committee has been tasked with finalizing the implementation process within the next 72 hours. He emphasized that once the technical committee completes its task, the negotiation committee will reconvene to determine the specific payment procedures.
The Deputy Governor further encouraged civil servants to directly report any discrepancies in their October salaries, should the new wage not be reflected, assuring that such issues will be addressed promptly. “We are committed to ensuring that the new wage is paid promptly and efficiently,” he stated.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yusuf Aish Bello, voiced the union’s support, pledging to collaborate with the technical committee to facilitate a smooth transition to the higher wage. Comrade Bello applauded Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for his commitment to implementing the wage increase, which aligns with the agreement established between the NLC and the federal government.
