Good Morning Britain's Richard Gaisford Recovers From Emergency Surgery, Hails Nhs Service

Good Morning Britain‘s chief correspondent, Richard Gaisford, is on the road to recovery following emergency surgery after an infection complication. The ITV journalist was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth for the unexpected procedure on Sunday.

Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, hosts of Good Morning Britain, informed viewers about Gaisford’s health update. It was revealed that antibiotics proved ineffective in treating his infection, leading to the urgent need for surgery.

Gaisford himself took to social media from his hospital bed, praising the impeccable service rendered by the staff at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, hailing it as ‘NHS at its very best.’

In his post, Gaisford expressed gratitude to the healthcare professionals stating, ‘Not quite the Sunday I’d planned. Many thanks to the incredible team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust for amazing care and a spot of emergency surgery.’

Joining the well-wishers were numerous ITV colleagues including Lorraine Kelly, Laura Tobin, Sally Biddulph, and former ITV newsreader John Stapleton, who all extended their best wishes for his speedy recovery.

Richard Gaisford, a familiar face on morning television for over two decades, has covered major news events ranging from the Chilean miners’ rescue to the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2005. He notably accompanied Prince William and Princess Kate on their inaugural Royal Tour to Canada in 2011 and has been a part of Good Morning Britain since 2014.

In a separate incident in 2022, Gaisford reported live from Kyiv amidst the Russian invasion, causing concern among ITV viewers when warning sirens interrupted the broadcast. Eventually, due to safety concerns with the proximity of Russian forces, Gaisford and his team made the tough decision to relocate from Kyiv.
