Google Alphabet Cybersecurity Acquisition

Fargo, ND, USA — Google-parent Alphabet is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz for approximately $30 billion, according to a source familiar with the discussions. This potential deal, first reported by The Wall Street Journal on March 17, marks what could be Alphabet’s largest acquisition to date.

The source indicated that while the terms are still being finalized, the acquisition has not yet been signed and may change. Neither Alphabet nor Wiz has responded to requests for comment regarding the acquisition.

Wiz, known for its innovative cloud-based cybersecurity solutions powered by artificial intelligence, aids companies in identifying and mitigating significant risks within their cloud platforms. The startup previously pursued a $23 billion collaboration with Alphabet centered on its initial public offering.

This buyout could face intense regulatory scrutiny, as major tech companies like Alphabet are frequently monitored for potential monopolistic behaviors. Analysts suggest that if the deal is approved, it could allow Alphabet to strengthen its position in the rapidly growing cybersecurity sector and enhance its cloud infrastructure segment, which generated over $43 billion in revenue last year.

Interest in cybersecurity solutions has grown significantly following last year’s global outage of cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, heightening enterprises’ concerns about safeguarding their digital infrastructures.

Wiz was last seen in a private funding round in May 2024, showcasing its vigor in the cybersecurity arena. As Alphabet continues to explore strategic acquisitions, this potential deal underscores the tech giant’s commitment to expanding its technological capabilities and market reach.
