Al Gore Speech Climate Week San Francisco

San Francisco, California — Former Vice President Al Gore delivered a sharp critique of the Trump administration during his keynote address to open Climate Week on April 21. He drew disturbing parallels between the tactics of the Trump administration and those of Adolf Hitler‘s Nazi regime in the 1930s.

Speaking at the Exploratorium museum, Gore argued that the current administration is “trying to create their own preferred version of reality,” likening it to how the Nazi party manipulated truths to gain power. “I understand very well why it is wrong to compare Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich to any other movement,” he acknowledged, “but there are important lessons from the history of that emergent evil.”

Gore’s address focused heavily on climate change, emphasizing that he believes the Trump administration is hindering the transition to green energy amid a global climate emergency. He criticized the administration for claims suggesting that climate change is a hoax and for downplaying the importance of renewable energy sources.

“After only three months and one day, the new administration is attempting to halt the transition to a clean future,” Gore stated. He cited the administration’s disparaging remarks about wind turbines and its assertions that coal is a clean energy source, calling these claims misinformation.

The former vice president encouraged attendees to take action, insisting that the United States is “under attack” from policies that reject scientific consensus on climate change. Gore’s remarks echo a broader trend among political leaders, as former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, along with Bill Clinton, have openly criticized the Trump administration’s actions in recent weeks.

In a statement made during his first post-presidency speech, Biden lamented the “damage” done in less than 100 days of Trump’s new administration, while Obama addressed the erosion of values in American society under Trump’s leadership.

Attending the event were notable figures including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. Pelosi spoke about the importance of climate policies such as the Inflation Reduction Act, while Lurie highlighted the city’s renewable energy initiatives.

Gore concluded his speech by emphasizing the necessity of protecting democracy and warned against authoritarian tendencies, stating, “Our constitution is intended to protect us against a threat identical to Donald Trump.”
